The Delivery Bag

The Order:

Ravagh has been on my radar screen for some time now and it’s hard to believe that it’s taken me this long to try it. Especially considering its five-star rating and plethora of dishes served over rice. So it was with great excitement that I placed my order today for the Lamb Shish Kebob with Basmati rice. AnnMarie was feeling a lighter lunch (/brought half a sandwich from home), so she ordered the traditional Persian noodle soup, Ash Reshteh.

The Meal:

Since it was a beautiful day in the neighborhood, I ordered for pick up of course and had an easy time picking up the food, which was well-packaged. I’m no expert on Persian cuisine, but I do know my meat and my rice and I liked Ravagh’s versions of both. The lamb was flavorful and well-cooked, not overdone, while the rice was tasty enough to eat on its own. The portion size was fairly large, offering good value for the price. In addition, the order came with pita bread, a salad, and grilled tomato, onion, and peppers! Quite the feast. My only issues were that it would have been nice to have some sort of sauce for dipping the bread or pouring over the rice and that the peppers were a bit burnt. Overall, an excellent lunch.

Ash Reshteh is a traditional Persian noodle soup with greens, chickpeas, and red kidney beans, topped with yogurt. It was all those extra ingredients that inspired AnnMarie to choose it over the other soup on offer, Ash Mash, but unfortunately it was really only the yogurt that added a special zip to the soup. That’s not to say it wasn’t good, just that it wasn’t exciting. Let’s just say it’s a good thing she brought a trusty sandwich also.

Judging from the most popular items list and from what we enjoyed, Ravagh is a great place for kebobs and one of those should be your main dish when you order. The soup’s alright, but there are a number of other appetizers that look more appealing (Humus, Sambuseh, Burani Bademjan) and that we may try next time!
