Today’s Order: The Loop

The Order:

In case you didn’t notice, it’s FREEZING in New York right now. Like bundle up, don’t wanna leave the house cold. Luckily, there just happens to be website that allows you to order food online from the warm comfort of wherever you might be… So today, AnnMarie and I felt like getting some sushi. We’ve tried most of the places in the area, but after a quick look around at the options, we noticed a new spot called The Loop. I’d never heard of it, but it had good ratings and a nice menu, so we decided to give it a try. I went for the Sushi Lunch Special with Tuna Roll, while AnnMarie opted for the Crunchy Spicy Tuna Roll and Broccoli Tempura. Maybe she was inspired by Top Chef Michael Voltaggio?

The Meal:

So we got  the food in good order. Quickly, well-packaged, and all that jazz. I actually thought that they did a particularly good job making the Sushi Lunch Special look attractive (see below), so I was impressed there. Now for the soup or salad option, I chose miso soup as I usually do. The salads from Japanese restaurants usually have really watery lettuce and even the tasty ginger dressing can’t save them. This soup though made me wish I had given the salad a chance. It was too thin and bland and I wish that there had been more tofu. How about the sushi though? I actually thought that it was pretty tasty. Nothing spectacular mind you, but definitely a solid lunch option and I liked the tuna the best.

The Spicy Tuna Roll is one of the most popular items on any New York sushi menu and according to AnnMarie, this one was a bit lackluster even if it did pack some crunch. The whole thing simply wasn’t that flavorful. The broccoli tempura was a bit better though at least and salvaged things.

While always happy to try a new sushi spot, given all the other options in the area, it seems doubtful that we’ll be trying The Loop again soon. Until we eat again…

Check out The Loop’s menu and feel free to give us recommendations for future orders in the comments.
