Today’s Order: Delectica

The Order:

It’s been a favorite around the office for years, including with a number of upper level management types, so it was with great confidence that AnnMarie and I decided to order from Delectica this afternoon. The five-star rating didn’t hurt either. Both of us quickly gravitated to the list of “Fresh Gourmet Sandwiches” and made our selections. AnnMarie went with the Chicken Salad Sandwich toasted on 7-Grain Bread, while I selected the Prosciutto Di Parma Sandwich on Ciabatta. As we all know, the bread is a critical part of any sandwich, so I like that they let you “choose your own adventure” so to speak from among ciabatta, baguette, 7-grain, or even a whole wheat wrap!

The Meal:

The food came in about 15 minutes, which was great, since we ordered a little late. Then, when I opened the packaging on my sandwich, I noticed something a little strange…the fillings to bread ratio was completely out of whack. I love bread as much as the next guy (probably more so, given my carbo-loading ways), but when I ordered, I was definitely expecting a different cross-section. But I accepted what I had, soldiered on (tough life, I know), and the sandwich was very good! The huge hunk of bread was not too hard, not too soft, and just right, the prosciutto was high quality and the other ingredients (mozzarella, basil, roasted peppers) complemented it nicely, although I did wish that there was a little more of everything. But thanks to all the bread, the sandwich ended up being filling despite not quite enough fillings.

AnnMarie’s sandwich on the other hand, was much better proportioned, even if it was harder to hold together. And her 7-grain bread was the real deal, as she could taste just about every grain. Meanwhile the chicken salad had a little bit of unexpected spice to it, but that worked well with the extra lettuce (requested and received) and the sun-dried tomatoes surrounding it. All in all, a top-notch treat.

Delectica is not your typical sandwich spot. The ingredients are better, the bread is fresher, and the prices are a little higher. So next time you’re in the mood for something delectable, order up Delectica.

Check out Delectica’s menu and feel free to give us recommendations for future orders in the comments.

Those are some sexy photos, but the bread to meat ratio in the first pic is all wrong.
