The Order:
What meal would warm our stomachs in the middle of yet another so-called “Snowpocalypse”? What food could comfort our growling guts as the clock struck high noon and AnnMarie and I prepared ourselves for a showdown with our senses? Only one dish could do the deed: Schnitzel. I never would have predicted it this morning, but today’s order was from none other than Schnitzel Express. Looking over the appealing sandwich list at this 5-star rated restaurant, AnnMarie selected the popular French Sandwich, while I chose the Mediterranean Sandwich, excited for some za’atar.
The Meal:
Even with the difficult conditions outside, the food easily arrived in the allotted 30-45 minutes and smelled delicious. But when we opened up the sandwiches, our carefree lunch-eating facade began to crumble. According to the menu, every sandwich is served with lettuce, tomato, and pickle. However, one look at my Mediterranean made it clear that someone in the Schnitzel kitchen had made a mistake, as my sandwich was nothing but chicken, bread, and za’atar.
Without the different textures (and moisture!) from the toppings, the sandwich was dry and a little bit difficult to eat. It was still fairly flavorful and the baguette was excellent, but I can’t help but wonder what might have been if they had sent the full array of expected ingredients.
Meanwhile, AnnMarie had requested no tomatoes and extra lettuce, so we were curious to see how her order turned out. Lettuce was there in abundance and tomatoes were correctly out of the picture, but the pickles and honey mustard were missing in action. Thus, her order was similarly somewhat disappointing. She agreed that the chicken was well-prepared, lightly-fried and that it worked well in combination with the baguette, but that extra lubrication from the mustard and crunch from the pickles would have made this schnitzel a whole different sandwich.
So what can we say about Schnitzel Express? Well they clearly know how to prepare a schnitzel, but do they know how to prepare a sandwich? The positive reviews would tend to suggest yes, so I’m willing to try them again with special instructions: INCLUDE LETTUCE, TOMATO, AND PICKLES!
Check out Schnitzel Express’s menu and feel free to give us recommendations for future orders in the comments.

I’ve ordered from there a few times, they’re lovely. Truly massive sandwiches and gobs of great fries (if you choose). Great for when you’re absolutely ravenous.
Adore the PRETZEL SCHNITZEL SANDWICH, with its crushed sesame pretzel crust. You *do* need to specify that you want “lettuce, tomatoes, pickles…” in the “Add Ons” portion of the sandwich selection form even though they do say that “every sandwich is served with lettuce, tomato, and pickle”: it’s not automatic.

Hey M. Alice,
Thanks for the heads up! Maybe we should ask them to specify that those toppings are not automatically included?

Oh yeah, there are plenty of key typos in many of the restaurant listings on Seamless. Including wrong addresses… which is particularly troublesome when you’re trying to place an order for pick-up and can’t find the phantom restaurant.
