The Order:
Even though I probably eat Korean food 3-4 times a month, I don’t think that I’ve ever ordered it for delivery…until now! Working close to K-town has its benefits and I was determined to take advantage of them today. My selection? Kang Suh Restaurant for a classic meal of Gopdol Bibim Bob.
The Meal:
The delivery time was only supposed to be 15-30 minutes and I eagerly awaited the arrival of my food for 3 reasons: 1. Korean food normally comes with tasty side dishes called banchan. Would I still get these treats without being in the restaurant?! 2. The bibim bob I ordered was supposed to come in a hot stone pot. Um, don’t think they can deliver those… 3. I WAS HUNGRY.
The food came quickly and my questions were answered. First of all, there was the banchan:
Cleverly packaged as you can see, and pretty good. I usually like most, but not all, of the dishes and in this case I enjoyed the green seaweed salad-y offering the most and didn’t really love the brown one that looks like noodles (note: NOT noodles). Now how about that bibim bob:
Not exactly a hot stone pot, but the dish arrived in a warm metallic container before I put it into that red bowl above. So I missed the benefit of the crispiness that usually accompanies the constant heat on the rice, along with the pleasure of mixing the bibim bob myself, but sacrifices must be made and given the nature of delivery food, I think this made sense. As for my opinion on the order? I thought that the bibim bob was satisfying and flavorful. It’s not quite the same experience as getting it in the restaurant, but it was a very good approximation. And with plenty of rice, I definitely solved that hunger problem.
So all in all, my first Korean food delivery order was a success thanks to Kang Suh. Check them out for yourself and see what you too may have been missing!
