Last week it was Tomi and this week it’s Linda (they’ll be alternating weekly, with some wild cards thrown in). Today’s Brooklyn Order is here to stay. Um, DON’T fuhgeddaboutit:
The Order:
Despite the proximity of Plan B to my apartment, its central location (a short distance from Prospect Park, the Brooklyn Museum, and other great bars), and my constant curiosity, I have never actually been inside. With so many new bars and restaurants popping up in Prospect Heights, it’s hard to hit them all. So when I noticed that Plan B was new to SeamlessWeb, I was excited to give it a try; it’s always fun to find a new local favorite. The Plan B Burger sounded delicious and unique (served inside-out!), but I went for the Eggplant Lasagna since I’d never heard of that combination. Making sure not to miss out on the fries that would’ve come with the burger option, I added a side of parmesan-garlic fries to my order. And I topped it all off with the Homemade Chocolate Soufflé. Go big or go home, right? (I was already home. Don’t judge me.)
The Meal:
Since the menu is high end for a sports bar, the Eggplant Lasagna was a bit pricey so I had high expectations. When it arrived, it didn’t look quite how I had hoped (and Food Network is always telling me that “we eat with our eyes first”). Luckily, the lasagna contained a variety of fresh vegetables, which helped me justify the price and portion size. Still, it was a little bit soupy from the heat, styrofoam container, and commute; I imagine it translates better when eaten in the bar, and noted to myself that maybe I should’ve gone with something more deliverable.
Since I had gotten my dose of vegetables (with lots of cheese, naturally), I moved onto the fries. The garlic and parmesan seasoning used thick chunks of both; but while tasty, it would’ve been smarter for me to get a meal that included fries rather than paying five bucks for the side. Then again, they satisfied my craving, and I’m not sure the lasagna would’ve done that on its own.
Now onto my favorite part of the meal. If only every take-out dinner could end with Homemade Chocolate Soufflé. The dessert traveled really well (aside from the little cup of vanilla ice cream–it never stood a chance), and stayed hot until I was ready to eat it (which was, well, immediately). The rich chocolate and fudge-y center helped me end my meal on a high note. When it comes to dessert: no regrets.
All in all, Plan B served up some tasty food, but I’ll be more careful about value next time. Some things just travel better than others and are more cost-effective when eaten at the restaurant. If I learned one important thing (aside from the confirmed deliciousness of chocolate soufflé), it’s that I should trust my instincts: always order the burger!
Check out Plan B’s menu and feel free to give us recommendations for future orders in the comments.
